APRIL KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during April 2010 (481,400 movements) decreased 0.2% compared with March 2010 (482,200 movements). This followed little changes for the months of February 2010 and March 2010. Currently, trend estimates for arrivals are 3.4% higher than in April 2009.
Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2010, arrivals (470,000 movements) recorded a decrease of 4.5% compared with March 2010 (492,000 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.9% for February 2010 and 1.6% for March 2010.
Original estimates: There were 430,200 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in April 2010.

SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES

Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during April 2010 (568,500 movements) increased 0.4% compared with March 2010 (566,000 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.7% each for February 2010 and March 2010. Currently, trend estimates for departures are 10.9% higher than in April 2009.
Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2010, departures (564,000 movements) decreased by 3.5% compared with March 2010 (584,300 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.4% for February 2010 and a monthly increase of 5.4% for March 2010.
Original estimates: There were 537,100 short-term resident departures from Australia during April 2010.
