SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during September 2010 (502,900 movements) increased 1.2% compared with August 2010 (496,700 movements). This followed similar monthly increases of 1.2% in July 2010 and 1.3% in August 2010. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 7.7% higher than in September 2009.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During September 2010, short-term visitor arrivals (511,400 movements) recorded an increase of 1.7% compared with August 2010 502,600 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 1.0% for July 2010 and an increase of 3.3% for August 2010.
- Original estimates: There were 474,900 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in September 2010.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during September 2010 (606,700 movements) increased 0.4% compared with August 2010 (604,100 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.0% for July 2010 and 0.8% for August 2010. The current trend estimate for departures is 12.6% higher than in September 2009.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During September 2010, short-term resident departures (608,000 movements) increased by 2.1% compared with August 2010 (595,800 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 2.3% for July and 1.1% for August 2010.
- Original estimates: There were 725,800 short-term resident departures from Australia during September 2010.
