ABOUT THIS RELEASE
The Classification and Classified List of Occupations (CCLO) are designed primarily for use in classifying occupation descriptions shown on Schedules obtained at the 1966 Census of the Commonwealth of Australia and should be used in conjunction with the companion volume, Index of Occupations, 1966.
The occupation descriptions appearing in the Classified List have been used on Schedules at past Censuses. The list has been expanded considerably since the 1961 Census and there is reason to believe it will be extended much further after the 1966 Census. The Classification of Occupations has been adapted from and closely adheres to the principles embodied in the International Standard Classification of Occupations issued by the International Labour Office, Geneva, 1958. The International Standard Classification of Occupations was prepared after extensive discussions and research by world experts in this field, to provide an adequate classification framework for countries interested in occupation classification, and, at the same time, provide a basis for international comparison of occupation data obtained mainly from Censuses of Population.
