Results for December 2006 Sales of New Motor Vehicles (electronic publication, cat. no. 9314.0) were released on 22 January 2007. The publication presents monthly new motor vehicle sales in original, trend and seasonally adjusted terms, based on VFACTS data supplied by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

Survey of Motor Vehicle Use - An investigation into coherence
A research paper titled Survey of Motor Vehicle Use - An investigation into coherence (ABS cat. no. 9208.0.55.005) was published on Friday 8 September 2006. The paper explores the underlying determinants of the disparity between SMVU petrol consumption estimates and data on total petrol sales, published by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources.

This Information Paper contains initial information on the issues the review team was aware of, and questions to help clarify these issues. A range of stakeholders were asked to provide feedback on this discussion paper.
This Information Paper is the final issues paper. It documents users' issues with the SMVU and is the final output from phase 1 of the review. This paper was compiled following consultation with a range of users of the survey data.
The ABS will be publishing a paper in March 2007, that details the review investigations and outcomes and decisions made by the SMVU project board.

ABS Yearbook
The 2007 ABS Yearbook was released on 24 January 2007, including a chapter on transport.
This product is the principal reference work produced by the ABS, and provides a comprehensive and detailed statistical overview of various aspects of the economy and social conditions in Australia, together with their administrative and legislative background. In addition, it contains descriptive matter dealing with Australia's government, international relations, defence, geography and climate.
Rail Freight Movements
Results for Rail Freight Movements (cat. no. 9220.0.55.001) were released on 29 July 2004, and provides statistics on tonnes and tonne-kilometres of rail freight moved in Australia for 2001-02 and 2002-03.
The ABS has no current plans to repeat this collection.
Bicycle Usage in Queensland
Information on bicycle riding in Queensland is available in Bicycle Usage, Queensland (cat. no. 9215.3). Topics covered include the number of bicycles, frequency of and reasons for cycling in the 12 months to October 2003, and whether cyclists possess a current drivers licence.
Freight Movements Survey
Freight Movement Survey (FMS) results (cat. no. 9220.0) for the 12 months ended 31 March 2001 were reissued on 6 September 2002 due to revisions to both tonnes and tonne-kilometres figures for the rail and all modes components. All tables in the publication (except 16 and 17) were affected by these revisions.

Transport Statistics User Group (TSUG) Meeting
The next TSUG meeting is expected to be held in early 2007.

Census of Population and Housing, 7 August 2001: Journey to Work Data
The scope of Journey of Work data was expanded to encompass all of Australia rather than some major urban areas in each state. In addition, the number of categories for method of travel to work was increased for the 2001 Census. The 1996 category of 'ferry/tram' has been split into two categories, 'ferry' and 'tram', and a new category 'truck' has been introduced.
