APRIL KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during April 2011 (485,400 movements) decreased 0.5% compared with March 2011 (487,800 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.8% in February 2011 and 0.7% in March 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 1.0% higher than in April 2010.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (489,800 movements) recorded an increase of 2.6% compared with March 2011 (477,300 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 2.6% in February 2011 and 2.3% in March 2011.
- Original estimates: There were 462,400 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in April 2011.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during April 2011 (636,100 movements) increased 1.9% compared with March 2011 (624,200 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.4% in February 2011 and 0.5% in March 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 10.4% higher than in April 2010.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2011, short-term resident departures (691,300 movements) increased by 19.6% compared with March 2011 (578,200 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.9% in February 2011 and 5.9% in March 2011.
- Original estimates: There were 693,000 short-term resident departures from Australia during April 2011.
