SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during September 2008 (456,400 movements), decreased by 0.8% compared with August 2008 (460,000 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.8% for July 2008 and 0.9% for August 2008.
- Currently, trend estimates for arrivals are 2.8% lower than in September 2007.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During September 2008, arrivals (450,700 movements) decreased by 1.1% compared with August 2008 (455,700 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 7.6% for July 2008 (associated with World Youth Day) and a monthly decrease of 8.6% for August 2008.
- Original estimates: There were 402,200 arrivals to Australia in September 2008.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during September 2008 (488,300 movements) changed little when compared with August 2008 (487,800 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.3% for July 2008 and 0.2% for August 2008.
- Currently, trend estimates for departures are 5.0% higher than in September 2007.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During September 2008, departures (487,200 movements) decreased by 1.6% compared with August 2008 (494,900 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.5% for July 2008 and 2.6% for August 2008.
- Original estimates: There were 575,700 departures from Australia during September 2008.
