From 2003-04 to 2004-05, manufacturing sales and service income in Tasmania increased by $553m (9.7%), from $5,686m to $6,239m. This compared to a 3.9% increase in the previous financial year.

In 2004-05, the largest contributors to manufacturing sales and income were the Metal product manufacturing industry subdivision, at $1,676m (26.9% of the Manufacturing industry total), the Food, beverage and tobacco manufacturing industry subdivision, $1,450m (23.2%) and the Wood and paper product manufacturing industry subdivision, $1,173m (18.8%).
