New Motor Vehicle Sales, Total vehicles - Short term

• Trend - The October 2008 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (80 030) decreased 1.4% when compared with September 2008. The trend estimate has decreased for the tenth consecutive month. When compared with October 2007 the trend estimate decreased by 10.8%.
• Seasonally adjusted - The October 2008 estimate for total sales of new motor vehicles (80 366) decreased by 0.5% compared with September 2008.

• Trend - When comparing October 2008 with September 2008, trend estimates decreased for sports utility vehicles, 2.4% and passenger vehicles, 1.7%, while other vehicles, increased by 0.1%. When compared with the same period 12 months ago all vehicles decreased, sports utility vehicles by 17.6%, passenger vehicles by 11.3%, and other vehicles by 2.7%.
• Seasonally adjusted - When comparing October 2008 with September 2008, sports utility vehicles decreased by 2.3%, and passenger vehicles by 1.5%, while other vehicles increased by 3.6%.

• Trend - When comparing October 2008 to September 2008, all of the states and territories showed decreases in the trend estimate of new total vehicle sales. The largest decreases were in Tasmania, 2.3%, and Victoria and Queensland both by 1.8%.
• Seasonally adjusted - When comparing October 2008 to September 2008, three of the states showed increases in total vehicle sales, Australian Capital Territory, 1.3%, Western Australia, 1.2% and Victoria, 0.6%. The largest decreases were in Northern Territory, 6.0% and Tasmania, 4.2%.
