JUNE KEY POINTS
VALUE OF WORK DONE, VOLUME TERMS
BUILDING WORK DONE
- The trend estimate of the value of total building work done for the June quarter fell 0.6% on the revised March quarter estimate.
- The seasonally adjusted June quarter estimate of the value of total building work done fell 3.9%, to $15,095.7m, on the revised March quarter estimate.
NEW RESIDENTIAL BUILDING WORK DONE
- The trend estimate value of new residential building work done fell 0.2% in the latest quarter. New houses rose 1.4%, while new other residential buildings fell 4.0%. Alterations and additions fell 1.0% and non-residential work done in the quarter fell 1.1%.
- The seasonally adjusted estimate of new residential work fell 3.2%, to $7,742.7m. Work on new houses fell 2.2%, to $5,554.9m, while new other residential building work fell 5.8%, to $2,187.7m. Alterations and additions fell 1.7%, to $1,464.5m.
NON-RESIDENTIAL WORK DONE
- Non-residential work done in the quarter fell 5.4%, to $5,888.5m, on the revised March quarter estimate.

ABOUT THIS ISSUE
This publication updates the preliminary estimates released in
Construction Work Done, Australia, Preliminary (cat. no. 8755.0) on 29 August 2007. The data in this publication are based on a response rate of approximately 96% of the value of building work done during the quarter. The data are subject to revision when returns from the following quarter are processed. Final data for the June quarter 2007 will be released in
Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 21 January 2008.
CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
A new chain volume reference year is updated annually. From 2007 onwards the updating of the reference year will be completed in the September quarter each year. In September 2007 the new reference year will be 2005-06 for chain volume estimates. This will result in revisions to growth rates in quarters following 2005-06 but will preserve additivity in those quarters. For earlier periods re-referencing affects the levels of, but not the movements in, chain volume estimates.
