EXPLANATORY NOTES
INTRODUCTION
1 This publication presents estimates of production of selected manufactured construction materials for Australia.
SCOPE AND COVERAGE
2 Data presented in this publication are collected from ABS surveys of manufacturing production.
3 Production statistics sourced from ABS manufacturing production surveys are collected from businesses believed to be engaged in pre-mixed concrete manufacturing or the manufacture of other selected commodities in Australia.
4 In July 2012 the ABS introduced the new geographical classification, Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) for sub-state level estimates. This has resulted in changes to the sub-state level data that is available on an Information Consultancy basis. For more information about the ASGS refer Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS), 2011 Edition (cat. no. 1270.0.55.001) and for more information about Information Consultancies please contact the National Information and Referral Service on 1300 135 070.
5 As part of a review process of data provision undertaken while introducing the ASGS in July 2012, a number of reporting anomalies were identified and a small number of additional businesses were added to the Production of pre-mixed concrete survey. These adjustments have resulted in a shift in the level of series of approximately 5.5% at the national level. The shift is more significant in some sub-state regions.
6 The estimated impact of these two changes have been introduced into the data series from July 2011 to allow month to month movement calculations to be made from that time on. Estimates of movements from between periods before the 2011-12 financial year and from this financial year onwards may be misleading, appearing larger than they should in reality and may be unreliable.
