GLOSSARY
Employed Person Equivalent The data presented in this publication is defined as an 'employed person equivalent' rather than an employee. This distinction is due to the statistical method used to derive the experimental estimates, as such the 'employed person equivalent' is a proxy for the number of employees. For example, an estimate of '1' in a given cell may represent one person, or it may represent two or more employees working a proportionately less amount of time. Local Government Area (LGA) Local Government Areas (LGAs) are part of the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) as non-ABS structures. LGAs are defined by the Departments of Local Government, or their equivalent in each state or territory, excepting the Australian Capital Territory. LGAs cover incorporated areas of Australia. Incorporated areas are legally designated parts of States / Territories over which incorporated local governing bodies have responsibility. The major areas of Australia not administered by incorporated bodies are the northern parts of South Australia and all of the Australian Capital Territory and the Other Territories. These regions are identified as ‘Unincorporated’ in the ABS LGA structure. Unincorporated regions in Victoria have been excluded from this publication. For persons paid other than weekly, earnings were converted to a weekly equivalent. No adjustment was made for any back payment of wage increases, prepayment of leave or bonuses, etc. Please note that in 2007, a change was made to the concept of earnings being measured to include amounts salary sacrificed (thus, salary sacrifice is not included in earnings estimates prior to 2007).
