OCTOBER KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for October 2016:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased by 9,865 or 2% for October 2016 when compared with September 2016 and there was a year-on-year decrease of 169,831 head or 24%.
  • The number of calves slaughtered in October 2016 decreased by 1,402 or 3% month-on-month and compared to this period last year decreased by 7,345 head or 15%.
  • Sheep slaughter in October 2016 decreased by 9,826 head or 2% compared with September 2016 and was down 198,297 head or 28% year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughters increased by 364 head for October 2016. Compared with October 2015, slaughters decreased by 132,556 head or 7%.
  • Pig slaughter held steady for the month of October, increasing by 33 head when compared to September 2016 and continued to increase year on year with slaughters up 17,506 or 4%.
