NOVEMBER KEY POINTS
LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED
- The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings increased for the third consecutive month, to 677,000, and was 3% higher than the same time the previous year.
- The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings decreased for the sixth consecutive month, to 948,000, and was down 4% on the same period last year.
- The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings rose for the fifth consecutive month, to 1.8 million, and was 2% lower than the same period the previous year.
- The trend estimate for pig slaughterings declined for the fifteenth consecutive month, to 374,000, and is at its lowest point since July 1985.
MEAT PRODUCTION
- The trend estimate for beef production remained steady at 180,400 tonnes, and was 3% higher than the same period last year.
- The trend estimate for mutton production decreased for the seventh consecutive month to 19,700 tonnes, and was down 9% compared to same time last year.
- The trend estimate for lamb production increased for the fifth consecutive month, to 35,700 tonnes, and was down 7% on the previous year.
- The trend estimate for pig production continued to drop for the fourteenth consecutive month, to 26,800 tonnes, and was down 17% compared to last year.
