JULY KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for July 2017:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 11,000 head (or 1.8%) for July 2017 when compared with June 2017, and year-on-year increased 41,400 head (or 7.1%).
  • The number of calves slaughtered in July 2017 increased by 2.1% month-on-month. When compared to the same period last year there was a decrease of 17,400 head (or 37%).
  • Sheep slaughter in July 2017 increased by 30,400 head (or 4.7%) compared with June 2017 and was up 123,000 head (or 22%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 1.8% for July 2017. Compared with July 2016, slaughters increased by 72,000 head (or 4.0%).
  • Pig slaughter increased by 2,500 head (or 0.6%) when compared to June 2017. Year-on-year slaughters were up 15,800 head (or 3.7%).
