JANUARY KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for January 2019:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 1,100 head (or 0.2%) in the month ending January 2019 compared with the previous month and increased by 61,500 head (or 10.0%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter remained steady in the month ending January 2019 and increased by 11,200 head (or 34.9%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 20,600 head (or 2.6%) for the month ending January 2019 compared with the previous month but increased by 95,800 head (or 14.4%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 36,300 head (or 2.0%) for the month ending January 2019 compared with the previous month but decreased by 37,000 head (or 1.9%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter decreased by 1,600 head (or 0.3%) for the month ending January 2019 compared to the previous month and decreased by 3,200 head (or 0.7%) year-on-year.
