JANUARY KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings rose for the seventh consecutive month, to 733,000. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for beef production rose for the eighth consecutive month, to 194,000 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings rose for the ninth consecutive month, to 1.3 million. This was the highest figure recorded since November 2002.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production rose for the ninth consecutive month, to 25,900 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since October 2002.
