The trend estimate for the number of cattle slaughtered in March quarter 2006 rose slightly to 1.9 million.
The trend estimate for the number of calves slaughtered in March quarter 2006 remained steady at 209,000.
In March quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of sheep slaughtered decreased slightly to 2.9 million. The number of lambs slaughtered decreased slightly to 4.6 million.
In March quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of pigs slaughtered remained steady at 1.3 million.
In March quarter 2006, the trend estimate for beef production rose slightly to 516,000 tonnes.
In March quarter 2006, the trend estimate for mutton production decreased slightly to 60,000 tonnes. The trend estimate for lamb production decreased slightly to 93,100 tonnes.
The trend estimate for red meat production increased slightly to 773,000 tonnes in March quarter 2006, due to increased beef production for the quarter.
The trend estimate for chicken meat production in March quarter 2006 remained steady at 193,000 tonnes.
The trend estimate for whole milk intake by factories in December quarter 2005 fell by 2% to 2.5 billion litres.
The trend estimate for wool receivals by brokers and dealers in March quarter 2006 rose slightly to 121,000 tonnes.
Live sheep exports fell by 42% to 854,000 in March quarter 2006. This coupled with a fall in unit value (to $65.60) saw gross value of live sheep exports decrease by 45% to $56 million.
