2008-09 AGRICULTURAL SURVEY


The 2008-09 Agricultural Survey questionnaire has now been finalised and will be dispatched at the end of June 2009 to 35,000 agricultural businesses. The questionnaire will collect data on a wide range of agricultural commodities, livestock numbers, land use, water use and management and water-related expenditure for the 2008-09 reference period.

Main data items collected will include area of holding, area and production data for cereals and other broadacre crops, vegetables and fruit, and number of livestock on holding. Water data will include area irrigated, volume of water used, sources of water, application methods and water related expenditure. A more detailed breakdown of land use will also be obtained.

Preliminary commodity production estimates will be released in Principal Agricultural Commodities, 2008-09 (cat. no. 7111.0) in November 2009. Water use data is expected to be released in May 2010 in Water use on Australian Farms (cat. no. 4618.0) and will feed into the Water Account (cat.no. 4610.0) to be released in late 2010.
