HOW MUCH WAS THAT WORTH?

The final estimates for the Value of Agricultural Commodities Produced (VACP), Australia (cat. no. 7503.0) are due to be released on 31 May 2011. This publication will contain the final data for the gross and local values of production for selected agricultural commodities for all states, territories and Australia for 2009 -10.

VACP puts a dollar value on the gross value of major commodities such as crops, livestock and livestock products. The data was collected as part of last year's Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS), the preliminary results of which were published on the ABS website in November 2010. The preliminary estimates for VACP (cat. no. 7501.0) were released on 21 February 2011.

VACP details more commodities (such as fruit and vegetables, livestock slaughterings and products) by state as well as nationally, so individual state production figures can be easily identified. Data will also be available in more detail at sub-state geographies (Statistical Division (SD) and Natural Resource Management (NRM) region) and will be released as separate data cubes attached to this publication.

HOT TIP

Without letting out any secrets prior to the release, you could safely bet on Tassie again being Australia's major producer of peas for processing ... see the December issue of Ag Mag for last year's result.
