The final estimates for the 2011 Agricultural Census are due to be published from 29 June 2012.
The Agricultural Census, which was run between June and October 2011, has been the source for the data released. The information collected from the farming community via the Census plays a vital role in supporting the development and monitoring of Australia's agricultural, natural resource and water policies. Agricultural Census estimates also provide key regional and benchmark data for many users and perform a critical frame maintenance role for the ABS by updating activity and location information for agricultural businesses. Census forms were sent out last year to about 163,000 agricultural businesses in Australia.
Preliminary data from the Agricultural Census were published at the National and State/Territory levels on 17 November 2011. All of it can be seen on the ABS website in Principal Agricultural Commodities, Preliminary, Australia (cat. no. 7111.0) and Value of Principal Agricultural Commodities Produced, Australia (cat. no. 7501.0).
The final estimates cover a wider variety of commodities than shown in the preliminary releases and National and State/Territory data will be published on the ABS website on 29 June 2012, in pdf form and with data cubes in
Agricultural Commodities, Australia, 2010-11 (cat. no. 7121.0),
Value of Agricultural Commodities Produced, Australia (cat. no. 7503.0) and
Water Use on Australian Farms (cat. no. 4618.0). Lower level data will be added as data cubes to this publication on the ABS website from August 2012.
