JUNE QUARTER KEY POINTS
IMPORT PRICE INDEX
- The Import Price Index increased by 2.3% in the June quarter 2006, following a 1.3% increase in the March quarter 2006. Crude and other petroleum oils were the main contributors to the increase, as well as copper tubes and pipe fittings. The most significant offsetting price decreases were for imports of antibiotics and parts for computers. Through the year to June quarter 2006, the Import Price Index rose 6.8%.
EXPORT PRICE INDEX
- The Export Price Index increased by 3.6% in the June quarter 2006, following a 5.0% increase in the March quarter 2006. The increase this quarter was driven by price rises for gold, alumina, crude petroleum oils, copper, sugar, zinc, nickel and aluminium. The most significant offsetting price decreases were for exports of manganese ores and coal. Through the year to June quarter 2006, the Export Price Index rose 16.4%.
