CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

From the September quarter 2017, the following additional series will be included in the Time Series Spreadsheets. These indexes will be incorporated into the stage of production indexes from September quarter 2017.

Table 36. Output of the Mining industries, index numbers includes:

• Gas Extraction Domestic
• Gas Extraction Domestic, East Coast Market
• Gas Extraction Domestic, Western Australia.

The outcomes of the Feature Article, Review of the Retail Trade Price Index (RTPI) have been implemented from the September quarter 2017. The review assessed the concepts, data sources and methods used to compile the RTPIs. Feedback from users was sought as part of the review.

The outcomes from the review include:

• The ABS will continue to publish a quarterly national RTPI; and
• State and outlet data will no longer be collected from providers.

As a result of the review, Table 31 Experimental Producer Price Index for the Output of the Retail Trade Industry will be revised back to the December quarter 2003 and Tables 32 and 33 will no longer be published.

The experimental tag on the index will be removed in December quarter 2017, pending feedback on the implemented changes. Feedback on the implemented changes can be emailed to: prices.statistics@abs.gov.au.
