SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


FINAL DEMAND (EXCL. EXPORTS)
  • rose 0.2% in the September quarter 2017.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for Electricity, gas and water supply (+4.9%), Heavy and civil engineering construction (+0.7%) and Building construction (+0.3%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for Other agriculture (-11.6%), Electronic equipment manufacturing (-4.5%) and Meat and meat product manufacturing (-6.0%).
  • rose 1.6% through the year to the September quarter 2017.


INTERMEDIATE DEMAND
  • rose 0.6% in the September quarter 2017.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for Electricity, gas and water supply (+3.3%), Architectural, engineering and technical services (+2.1%) and Real estate services (+2.3%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for Textile, leather, clothing and footwear manufacturing (-1.8%) Computer and electronic equipment manufacturing (-5.9%) and Meat and meat product manufacturing (-5.6%).
  • rose 2.5% through the year to the September quarter 2017.


PRELIMINARY DEMAND
  • rose 0.5% in the September quarter 2017.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for Electricity, gas and water supply (+3.4%), Architectural, engineering and technical services (+2.0%) and Employment services (+1.9%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for Textile, leather, clothing and footwear manufacturing (-1.9%), Electronic equipment manufacturing (-5.9%) and Meat and meat product manufacturing (-6.5%).
  • rose 2.3% through the year to the September quarter 2017.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

From the September quarter 2017, the following series have been included in Table 36 of the Time Series Spreadsheets. These indexes will be incorporated into the Stage of Production (SOP) indexes from September quarter 2017.

Table 36 Output of the Mining industries will include index numbers for:
  • Gas Extraction, Domestic
  • Gas Extraction, Domestic, East Coast Market
  • Gas Extraction, Domestic, Western Australia

REVISIONS TO THE STAGE OF PRODUCTION INDEXES

The September quarter issue of the Producer Price Indexes, Australia (cat. no. 6427.0) includes revisions to the Stage of Production (SOP) analytical series. These revisions do not impact the SOP headline series, which excludes exports.

These changes align the SOP measures with the revisions applied to the International Trade Price Indexes, Australia (cat. no.6457.0) in the June quarter 2017.

The revisions apply to the following quarters: September quarter 2016, December quarter 2016, March quarter 2017 and June quarter 2017.

The series impacted by these revisions include:
  • Final; Domestic; Exports;
  • Final; Domestic; Total (incl. exports);
  • Final: Domestic Total (source); Total (incl. exports)

These series are annotated in Tables 1, 2, 3, 4 and 10 time series spreadsheets.


CHANGES IN FUTURE ISSUES

From December quarter 2017, the Producer Price Index, Australia (cat. no. 6427.0) publication will cease publishing the following series in Table 12 Output of the Manufacturing industries, division, subdivision and class index numbers:
  • 2311 Motor vehicle manufacturing;
  • 2312 Motor vehicle body and trailer manufacturing;
  • 2313 Automotive electrical component manufacturing;
  • 2319 Other motor vehicle parts manufacturing.
