ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - STAGE OF PRODUCTION INDEXES Since September quarter 2016, there has been comparatively stronger inflation in the SOP Preliminary Demand and SOP Intermediate Demand indexes than in the SOP Final Demand index. This has intensified in the past three quarters, with differences between Final and Intermediate/Preliminary of 0.4% (September quarter 2017), 0.6% (December quarter 2017) and 1.0% in the March quarter 2018. The past several quarters have shown significant input price pressures evident across a number of industries. However, competitive retail conditions have limited pass through of these price increases to final demand. This inability to pass through higher input prices has been evident in the supply of energy to both producers and household consumers reflected across the three stages of SOP. For example, over the course of the 2016-17 financial year, prices paid by manufacturers for natural gas increased by 9.0%, whereas household prices paid for natural gas increased by 2.8%.
