JUNE KEY POINTS
QUARTERLY ESTIMATES
- For the June quarter 2012, there were 53 disputes, 10 more than in the March quarter 2012.
- The number of employees involved in industrial disputes in the June quarter 2012 was 70,000, an increase from 6,700 in the March quarter 2012.
- There were 101,700 working days lost due to industrial disputation in the June quarter 2012, an increase from 35,800 in the March quarter 2012. This is the highest level of working days lost since the June quarter 2004.
- High numbers of working days lost were driven by large disputes in the Education and training and Health care and social assistance industries in June quarter 2012 and September quarter 2011.
- The combined Education and training and Health care and social assistance industries accounted for 67,800 (67%) of the total number of working days lost in the June quarter 2012. The Coal mining industry had the highest number of working days lost per thousand employees (152.7) for the quarter.
YEAR ENDED ESTIMATES
- During the year ended June 2012, there were 208 disputes, 1 less than in the year ended June 2011.
- During the year ended June 2012, there were 293,100 working days lost compared with 159,800 in the year ended June 2011.
