CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

IMPACT OF PRIVATISATION OF TELSTRA CORPORATION
    Telstra Corporation was effectively privatised on 20 November 2006. For the purposes of ABS statistics this change from public sector to private sector is effective from March quarter 2007. This change has impacted the Average Weekly earnings by sector series for February 2007 and movements between November 2006 and February 2007.

    The effect of this change is significant for both the private sector and public sector series. As a result, a trend break has been applied to both series between November 2006 and February 2007.

    NOTES ON ESTIMATES

    COMPOSITIONAL EFFECTS

    Movements in average weekly earnings can be affected by both changes in the level of earnings per employee and changes in the composition of the labour force. For example, changes in the proportions of full-time, part-time, casual and junior employees and variations in the distribution of occupations can affect movements in earnings series. Refer to paragraphs 18 and 19 of the Explanatory Notes.
