This Technical Manual provides information about the release of microdata from the 2009 Survey of Education and Training. Microdata are the most detailed information available from a survey and are generally the answers to most individual questions included on the questionnaire or the data derived from answers to two or more questions. The microdata are available in two formats: a Basic Confidentialised Unit Record File (CURF) and an Expanded CURF.

This manual explains the data content, technical details and the conditions of use of the CURFs and should be used as a reference document when interrogating either of the files. An Excel spreadsheet listing all the data items available on both CURFs accompanies this manual.
