CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
To coincide with the introduction of concurrent seasonal adjustment in December 2003, the ABS introduced an additional adjustment to be applied to employment series in those years where Easter occurs during the April LFS interview period. Users were informed of these changes in Information Paper: Forthcoming Changes to Labour Force Statistics, 2003 (cat. no. 6292.0).
Based on the latest LFS data (including April 2007), the ABS no longer considers the Easter adjustment necessary for 2004 and 2007 (the last two years that Easter has occurred during the April LFS interview period). As a result, the seasonally adjusted employment estimate for April 2004 has been revised down by 53,800. The ABS will continue to monitor the effect of Easter on labour force statistics.
SAMPLING ERRORS
The estimates in this publication are based on a sample survey. Because the entire population is not enumerated, the published estimates and the movements derived from them are subject to sampling variability. Standard errors give a measure of this variability and appear on pages 28 and 29.
The 95% confidence intervals below provide another way of looking at the variability inherent in estimates from sample surveys. The interval bounded by the two limits is the 95% confidence interval. A 95% confidence interval has a 95% chance of including the true value of the estimate.
