JULY KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, July 2015 imports on an international merchandise trade basis were $23,936m, an increase of $1,364m (6%) on the revised June 2015 merchandise imports of $22,572m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $1,119m (5%) between June and July 2015.
- In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits rose $41m between June and July 2015 to $23,399m. This is the highest on record surpassing June 2015 at $23,358m.
- Capital goods rose $662m (13%), driven by civil aircraft and confidentialised items, up $394m (72%) and machinery and industrial equipment, up $157m (9%).
- Consumption goods rose $228m (3%), driven by toys, books and leisure goods, up $64m (13%) and textiles, clothing and footwear, up $59m (4%).
- Intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $811m (8%), driven by fuels and lubricants, down $693m (23%).
- Non-monetary gold fell $38m (11%).
REVISIONS
- Revisions on an international merchandise trade basis have been applied back to January 2015.
- The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
