Direct tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in volume terms, increased by 6.1%, compared with real GDP growth of 2.8%.
Direct tourism gross value added at basic prices, in volume terms increased by 6.1%, compared to gross value added for all industries which increased by 2.7%.
Internal tourism consumption (total domestic and international consumption in Australia) in volume terms, increased by 6.1%. Of this figure, domestic tourism consumption increased by 4.7% while international tourism consumption grew by 10.1%.
Direct tourism gross value added per hour work (a measure of tourism labour productivity) increased by 6.9% compared to growth for the whole economy of 1.0%.
CURRENT PRICE MEASURES
GDP
Direct tourism GDP increased by 7.4% to $52,918m, compared with GDP growth of 2.3%.
Tourism share of GDP increased to 3.2% from 3.0%.
INDUSTRY GROSS VALUE ADDED
Direct tourism gross value added increased by 7.5% to $48,529m.
TOURISM CONSUMPTION
Internal tourism consumption increased by 6.1% to $129,895m.
Domestic tourism consumption increased by 4.4% to $95,672m.
Tourism exports (international tourism consumption in Australia) increased by 11.1% to $34,222m.
Tourism imports (outbound tourism consumption by Australian residents on outbound trips) increased by 7.2% to $38,555m.
TOURISM EMPLOYMENT
Tourism employed persons increased by approximately 6,800 employees to 580,200 employed persons.
Tourism share of total employment remains unchanged at 4.9%.
Hours worked in tourism decreased by 1.1%, compared with an increase of 1.7% for the overall economy.

The 2015-16 publication reflects results from the annual TSA update process where estimates for the latest year are modelled using movements in visitor consumption.
