Direct tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in volume terms, increased by 2.8%, compared with real GDP growth of 2.3%.
Direct tourism gross value added at basic prices, in volume terms increased by 2.7%, compared to gross value added for all industries which increased by 2.3%.
Internal tourism consumption (total domestic and international consumption in Australia) in volume terms, increased by 3.0%. Of this figure, domestic tourism consumption increased by 1.9% while international tourism consumption grew by 6.5%.
Direct tourism gross value added per hour work (a measure of tourism labour productivity) decreased by 2.4% compared to growth for the whole economy of 1.0%.
CURRENT PRICE MEASURES
GDP
Direct tourism GDP increased by 5.3% to $47,502m, compared with GDP growth of 1.6%.
Tourism share of GDP increased from 2.8% to 3.0%.
INDUSTRY GROSS VALUE ADDED
Direct tourism gross value added increased by 5.2% to $43,447m.
TOURISM CONSUMPTION
Internal tourism consumption increased by 4.3% to $121,239m.
Domestic tourism consumption increased by 2.7% to $90,525m.
Tourism exports (international tourism consumption in Australia) increased by 9.0% to $30,714m.
Tourism imports (outbound tourism consumption by Australian residents on outbound trips) decreased by 3.6% to $34,503m.
TOURISM EMPLOYMENT
Tourism employed persons increased by approximately 34,300 employees to 580,800 employed persons.
Tourism share of total employment increased from 4.7% to 5.0%.
Hours worked in tourism increased by 5.2%, compared with an increase of 1.3% for the overall economy.
