NOTES
ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION
This publication contains state and territory estimates of Gross domestic product (referred to as gross state product (GSP)) and its components, in current price and volume terms, for the years 1989-90 to 2017-18.
CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
The estimates in this issue incorporates new and revised national estimates as published in the 2017-18 Australian System of National Accounts (cat. no. 5204.0). This includes the incorporation of the 2016-17 annual supply and use tables. For more information on the role of the supply and use tables in the national accounts and the major revisions please see the 'Analysis of Results' section within the ASNA 5204.0 publication. These revisions, spanning the entire time series, are necessary in order to reflect changes in methods, concepts, classifications and data sources and to maintain consistent time series.
The national revisions impact on all states, although the extent varies between states. This is due to differing state weights of estimates affected by revisions. For example, if a certain state has a large proportion of an industry, then revisions to that industry's national total will have a greater impact upon the predominate state's result compared to the other states. Recent years have also had the addition of new and updated data sources that have become available throughout the year.
This release of the Australian National Accounts: State Accounts incorporates revised estimates for interstate trade in goods. Source data and method used to compile interstate trade in goods was reviewed and updated this year. The revisions to interstate trade in goods will net out in the residual component of the Balancing Item Discrepancy and therefore does not impact nominal GSP. These revisions do impact the GSP(I/E) deflator and therefore volume estimates of GSP using the income/expenditure approach (GSP(I/E)). For more information refer to paragraphs 14–20 of the Explanatory Notes.
