INTRODUCTION
This release presents experimental estimates of capital stock for the states and territories of Australia. These estimates have been produced in collaboration with the New South Wales Department of Industry and supplement statistics already published in Australian System of National Accounts (cat. no. 5204.0) and Australian National Accounts: State Accounts (cat. no. 5220.0).
State Gross fixed capital formation by industry and State capital stock estimates are new additions to the suite of economic statistics already available at the state level. The new dataset facilitates more detailed analysis of state economies at the industry level to inform policy decisions. These estimates address user demand from state and territory governments.
The state capital stock estimates are compiled using a number of assumptions and constraints based on available data sources. As such, the estimates contained in this release are considered experimental and should be used with caution.
This release contains experimental estimates for each state and territory by asset, by sector and by industry of Gross fixed capital formation, Consumption of fixed capital and Net capital stock in current price and chain volume terms. Due to confidentiality requirements certain series are not available for particular states.
