INTRODUCTION

More than a quarter (27% or 4.7 million people) of the 17.7 million persons aged 15 years and over living in Australia in 2010–11 participated in at least one selected cultural activity during the 12 months before interview (Table 1). An estimated 2.6 million people participated in one activity (15%), 1.05 million people (5.9%) participated in two activities and 1.08 million people (6.1%) participated in three or more activities (Table 3). Participation rates for selected activities included 10% for textile crafts, jewellery making, paper crafts or wood crafts and 8.1% for sculpting, painting, drawing or cartooning, including digital pieces. The graph below illustrates the rate of participation for selected activities. (Table 5)
