Household Expenditure on Health: A Snapshot, 2004-05 (cat. no. 4836.0.55.001) presents an overview of the health expenditure of households in Australia, focusing on medical care and health costs, using data from the 2003-04 ABS House Expenditure Survey (HES) and the 2004-05 National Health Survey (NHS). Some data are available for older persons.

Arts and Culture in Australia: A Statistical Overview, 2008 (First Edition) (cat. no. 4172.0) provides a statistical overview of culture in Australia. Contains information on a range of topics including employment in culture, time spent on cultural activities, attendances at cultural venues and events, expenditure on culture, and imports and exports of cultural goods and services. Some data are available for persons 65 years and over.

JUNE 2008

Health Literacy, Australia, 2006 (cat. no. 4233.0) examines health literacy using information from the 2006 Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (ALLS). The ALLS provides information on the knowledge and skills of 15 to 74 year olds in the following four domains: prose literacy, document literacy, numeracy and problem solving. A fifth domain measuring health literacy was produced as a by-product of the above domains. Includes some data for older males and females.

Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories, Jun 2002 to Jun 2007 (cat. no. 3201.0) contains estimates of the resident population of Australian states and territories as at 30 June of each reference year. Estimates up to 2006 are final, based on the results of the 2006 Census of Population and Housing, and 2007 estimates are preliminary. Provides data by state for males, females and persons by single year of age up to 85 years and over. A media release entitled 'Australia's population keeps getting older' was produced to coincide with this publication.

Recorded Crime - Victims, Australia, 2007 (cat. no. 4510.0) presents national crime statistics relating to victims of a selected range of offences that have been recorded by police. These statistics provide indicators of the level and nature of recorded crime victimisation in Australia and a basis for measuring change over time. Some data are available for persons aged 65 years and over.

Family Characteristics and Transitions, Australia, 2006-07 (cat. no. 4442.0) compiles statistics from the Family Characteristics and Family Transitions and History topics in the Multi-Purpose Household Survey (MPHS), which was conducted as a supplement to the ABS Monthly Population Survey (MPS), from July 2006 to June 2007. The Family Characteristics topic collected information on household and family composition including demographic, labour force, and family types. Some data are available for persons aged 65-74 years and for those aged 75 years or over.

Health of Mature Age Workers in Australia: A Snapshot, 2004-05 (cat. no. 4837.0.55.001) provides a brief overview of the health of mature age workers in Australia (people aged 45 - 74 years). Information for this article is drawn from the ABS 2004 - 05 National Health Survey and other ABS collections. People with a Need for Assistance - A Snapshot, 2006 (cat. no. 4445.0) examines the age, sex, indigenous status, state/ territory, remoteness index, living arrangements, proficiency in English, labour force participation and occupation of people with a need for assistance. It uses data from the 2006 Census, which was the first Census to include questions on a person's need for assistance in one of the three core activities of communication, self-care and body movement. Population by Age and Sex, Regions of Australia, 2007 (cat. no. 3235.0) contains estimates of the resident population by age (in five-year age groups up to 85 and over) and sex as at 30 June 2007.


Australian Historical Population Statistics, 2008 (cat. no. 3105.0.65.001) is an electronic product containing a wide range of historical demographic data going back as far, where possible, to the beginnings of European settlement. Provides data for males, females and persons in 5-year age groups up to 85 years and over in 1901, 1911 and annually from 1921.

SEPTEMBER 2008

Population Projections, Australia, 2006 to 2101 (cat. no. 3222.0) contains projections (based on different assumptions of future fertility, mortality and migration) of the resident population of Australia, the states and territories, capital cities and balance of states, by age and sex, for the base year to 2101 (for Australia) and for the base year to 2056 (for the states and territories, capital cities and balances of states). Provides data for males, females and persons in single year age groups up to 100 years and over. A media release entitled 'One in four Australians aged 65 years and over by 2056' was produced to coincide with this publication.

OCTOBER 2008

National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing: Summary of Results, 2007 (cat. no. 4326.0) presents an overview of the main topics covered in the National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing conducted in 2007. It contains comprehensive Australian data on key mental health issues including the prevalence of mental disorders, the associated disability, and the use of services. A Profile of Carers in Australia, 2008 (cat. no. 4448.0) provides an overview of the characteristics and activities of people who provide informal assistance to someone with a disability, long-term health condition or to older people (aged 60 years and over).
