This re-issue has been made to correct errors in tables 6.4 and 9.6 of the publication. No other elements of this product have been affected by these changes.
In Table 6.4, three numbers have been corrected: two numbers in the last row of the table (for the total population) for the proportions of people who felt able to ask for small favours and able to ask for support in time of crisis; and the population count for overseas-born persons not proficient in spoken English. In Table 9.6 eight numbers in the population count columns have been corrected: these relate to the counts for Family type, Country of birth, Labour force status and Disability status. The figure for attendance at cultural venues by females in the highest equivalised income quintile group was also corrected.
Drawing together the currently available information on social interactions from the 2002 General Social Survey and other ABS surveys, this compendium presents topics relating to selected elements of the ABS Social Capital Framework. Geographic and structural features of the Australian population set the scene, with further topics on feelings of safety, reciprocity and aspects of community support and social participation. Short articles with graphics present summary information for demographic and socio-economic characteristics. Some data are presented at state/territory and Remoteness Area level.
