NOTES
CHANGES TO THIS ISSUE
This issue is the first of the annual ABS Energy Account Australia (EAA) releases, forming the Australian Bureau of Statistics' commitment to the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) framework. Prior to this release, ABS energy accounts were produced biennially for the 2006-07 and 2008-09 periods. This issue contains revised estimates for net physical energy supply and use for 2008-09 and 2009-10. The Hybrid physical-monetary energy use table relates to the 2008-09 reference period.
The 2009-10 EAA is presented in a net physical supply and use format. Net physical supply and use only record energy ‘entering‘ and energy ‘leaving’ the economy. The Hybrid physical-monetary energy use table in this issue is presented in a gross energy accounts format, to allow reporting of energy which is transformed before final use (eg. the coal used for electricity generation and the electricity used by final consumers). The 2008-09 EAA was presented in a gross energy accounts format. Further information, including explanations of differences between net and gross accounts, can be found within the Explanatory Notes.
TERMINOLOGY
Every endeavour has been made to ensure terminology used in the 2009-10 EAA is consistent with definitions found in the 2008-09 EAA and those used in the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences’ (ABARES) Australian Energy Statistics (AES) - Energy Update 2011.
NEXT ISSUE
The next release of Energy Account, Australia is scheduled for November 2012.
