The Gender Indicators product features a total of 52 indicators, each with a Key series and many with related supporting measures. Indicators are spread across six major areas of social concern for gender equality (Economic security, Education, Health, Work and family balance, Safety and justice, and Democracy, governance and citizenship). This release includes the following data updates:

  • A total of 20 tables in the Economic security domain have been updated with unpublished data from the 2014-15 ABS Labour Force Survey and 2014 data from the ABS Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours (EEH). In addition, two superannuation tables (25 and 26) have been replaced with new tables based on more up-to-date superannuation data from the 2011-12 ABS Survey of Income and Housing. The old tables sourced data from the 2007 ABS Survey of Employment Arrangements, Retirement and Superannuation (SEARS).

  • Two tables in the Education domain have been updated with administrative data on apparent retention rates from ABS Schools Australia, 2014.

  • The Health domain has been updated with preliminary 2013 data from the ABS Causes of Death Collection. Tables updated include leading causes of death, and death rates from cancer, diseases of the circulatory system, suicide, motor vehicle accidents and drug induced deaths. Perinatal deaths has also been updated for 2013 with ABS administrative data collected from state and territory Registrars of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

  • Two tables on volunteers in the Work and family balance domain have been updated with data from the 2014 General Social Survey.

  • The Safety and justice domain has been updated with victims data from the 2014-15 ABS Crime Victimisation Survey and administrative data from ABS Recorded Crime - Victims, Australia 2014. Offender data for 2013-14 are also available from state and territory police records collected by the ABS.

  • The Democracy, governance and citizenship domain has been updated with judiciary data for 2015 from the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration (AIJA). Data on Order of Australia nominations and recipients from the Governor General's Secretariat has been updated. There are two new tables on leadership in non-public sector employers which source data from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).
