BLOOD AND URINE COLLECTION AND LABORATORY ANALYSIS
This section contains details of the collection and analysis of the National Health Measures Survey (NHMS) blood and urine samples, including details of the quality control and quality assurance procedures that were conducted to ensure the quality of the NHMS results.
Quality assurance
Analytical control of the imprecision (variability) of the AHS results was monitored and maintained using a multi-layered quality assurance system comprising of Internal Quality Control (IQC) processes, participation in an External Quality Assurance Program (EQAP) and the periodic review of analytical variability for each AHS test. In conclusion, the ABS is satisfied with the quality assurance system used by Sonic Healthcare Pathology to ensure the reliability of the NHMS results.
Analysing laboratories
All blood and urine analyses for the NHMS were conducted at Sonic Healthcare Laboratories. Douglass Hanly Moir (DHM) Pathology in Sydney, Australia, was the central analysing laboratory used for the majority of blood and urine sample analyses and urinary Iodine analysis for was conducted by Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (SNP) in Queensland, Australia.
