SELECTED RELEASES Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, Feb 2011 (cat. no. 3401.0) This publication provides a summary of monthly data by category of movement. For visitors arriving and residents departing short term, the intended length of stay, main purpose of journey, principal destination (departures) or country of usual residence (arrivals) and state and territory in which most time was spent. Demography News, Feb 2011 (cat. no. 3106.0) This newsletter provides information about the latest demographic research and analysis being undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Australian Statistical Geography Standard (cat. no. 3218.0) The Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) will be replacing (in July 2011) the Australian Statistical Geography Classification (ASGC) as the nation's official statistical geography. The ASGS provides more stable, consistent and meaningful areas and will become the essential reference for understanding and interpreting the geographical context of ABS statistics. General Social Survey: Summary Results, Australia, 2006: (cat. no. 4159.0) The General Social Survey (GSS) was first conducted in 2002 and is intended to be repeated at regular intervals (currently four-yearly). The most recent iteration is the 2010 GSS and is expected to be released on the 27 September this year. The GSS brings together a wide range of information to enable it to be linked across areas of social concern. The GSS contains information on a wide variety of topics, which can be cross classified by a number of data items pertaining to migrant statistics. Information Paper: A Guide for Using Statistics for Evidence Based Policy, 2010 (cat. no. 1500.0) This paper outlines the importance of evidence based decision making and acts as a guide for using statistics with this in mind.
