SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during September 2014 (578,700 movements) increased 0.2% compared with August 2014 (577,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.2% in both July 2014 and August 2014. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 7.1% higher than in September 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During September 2014, short-term visitor arrivals (580,400 movements) increased 0.4% compared with August 2014 (578,300 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.3% in July 2014 and a monthly increase of 1.3% in August 2014.
  • Original estimates: There were 517,500 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in September 2014.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during September 2014 (763,600 movements) increased 0.1% compared with August 2014 (762,900 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.3% in July 2014 and 0.1% in August 2014. The current trend estimate for departures is 3.2% higher than in September 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During September 2014, short-term resident departures (759,000 movements) decreased 0.6% compared with August 2014 (763,200 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.6% in July 2014 and a monthly increase of 0.1% in August 2014.
  • Original estimates: There were 900,200 short-term resident departures from Australia in September 2014.
