OCTOBER KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during October 2017 (755,300 movements) increased 0.2% compared with September 2017 (753,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.5% in both August 2017 and September 2017. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 6.8% higher than in October 2016.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2017, short-term visitor arrivals (759,200 movements) increased 2.0% compared with September 2017 (744,500 movements). This followed a monthly increases of 2.1% in August 2017 and a monthly decrease of 2.2% in September 2017.
  • Original estimates: There were 741,500 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in October 2017.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident returns during October 2017 (884,200 movements) was steady at 0.0% compared with September 2017 (884,000 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.1% in August 2017 and 0.2% in September 2017. The current trend estimate for returns is 4.8% higher than in October 2016.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2017, short-term resident returns (887,500 movements) decreased 0.4% compared with September 2017 (891,100 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.7% in August 2017 and 1.4% in September 2017.
  • Original estimates: There were 1,078,500 short-term resident returns to Australia in October 2017.
