OCTOBER KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during October 2010 (505,800 movements) increased 1.0% compared with September 2010 (501,000 movements). This followed similar monthly increases of 1.2% in August 2010 and 1.1% in September 2010. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 6.6% higher than in October 2009.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2010, short-term visitor arrivals (498,300 movements) recorded a decrease of 2.3% compared with September 2010 (510,100 movements). This followed monthly increases of 3.6% for August 2010 and 1.4% for September 2010.
  • Original estimates: There were 493,500 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in October 2010.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during October 2010 (605,300 movements) increased 0.3% compared with September 2010 (603,400 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% for August 2010 and 0.3% for September 2010. The current trend estimate for departures is 10.9% higher than in October 2009.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2010, short-term resident departures (598,400 movements) decreased by 1.4% compared with September 2010 (606,600 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 1.1% for August 2010 and an increase of 1.9% for September 2010.
  • Original estimates: There were 577,700 short-term resident departures from Australia during October 2010.
