MAY KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during May 2014 (577,500 movements) increased 0.7% compared with April 2014 (573,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.9% in March 2014 and 0.8% in April 2014. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 11.3% higher than in May 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During May 2014, short-term visitor arrivals (583,600 movements) increased 1.7% compared with April 2014 (574,000 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.2% in March 2014 and a monthly increase of 2.2% in April 2014.
  • Original estimates: There were 468,200 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in May 2014.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during May 2014 (755,200 movements) increased 0.4% compared with April 2014 (752,300 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.4% in both March 2014 and April 2014. The current trend estimate for departures is 4.2% higher than in May 2013.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During May 2014, short-term resident departures (754,600 movements) decreased 4.5% compared with April 2014 (790,000 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 3.8% in March 2014 and a monthly increase of 10.8% in April 2014.
  • Original estimates: There were 730,700 short-term resident departures from Australia in May 2014.
