SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during March 2018 (761,800 movements) increased 0.4% when compared with February 2018 (758,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.3% for both January and February 2018. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 5.3% higher than in March 2017.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2018, short-term visitor arrivals (771,600 movements) increased 2.6% when compared with February 2018 (751,800 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.5% in January 2018 and a decrease of 1.4% in February 2018.
  • Original estimates: There were 872,400 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in March 2018.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident returns during March 2018 (893,900 movements) increased 0.3% when compared with February 2018 (891,300 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.2% in January 2018 and 0.3% in February 2018. The current trend estimate for returns is 1.7% higher than in March 2017.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During March 2018, short-term resident returns (908,100 movements) increased 4.1% when compared with February 2018 (872,200 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.3% in January 2018 and a monthly decrease of 2.6% in February 2018.
  • Original estimates: There were 740,700 short-term resident returns to Australia in March 2018.

REVISIONS IN THIS ISSUE

Investigations by the ABS and the Department of Home Affairs identified quality issues with the capture and coding of state or territory of stay/residence from incoming passenger cards from July 2017 onwards. A resolution to these issues has now been implemented. Revised OAD data from July 2017 to February 2018 has been released in this issue. All time series spreadsheets and data files have been revised.
