FEBRUARY KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during February 2014 (562,600 movements) increased 0.6% compared with January 2014 (559,000 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.9% in both December 2013 and January 2014. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 9.6% higher than in February 2013.
Seasonally adjusted estimates: During February 2014, short-term visitor arrivals (562,300 movements) recorded an increase of 0.1% compared with January 2014 (561,700 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 6.9% in December 2013 and a monthly decrease of 2.0% in January 2014.
Original estimates: There were 627,100 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in February 2014.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during February 2014 (749,700 movements) increased 0.1% compared with January 2014 (748,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.4% in December 2013 and 0.3% in January 2014. The current trend estimate for departures is 6.7% higher than in February 2013.
Seasonally adjusted estimates: During February 2014, short-term resident departures (740,600 movements) decreased 1.4% compared with January 2014 (750,900 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 4.2% in December 2013 and a monthly decrease of 1.7% in January 2014.
Original estimates: There were 535,900 short-term resident departures from Australia during February 2014.
