AUGUST KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during August 2010 (487,900 movements) increased 0.6% compared with July 2010 (485,200 movements). This followed similar monthly increases of 0.4% in June 2010 and 0.6% in July 2010. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 5.6% higher than in August 2009.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2010, short-term visitor arrivals (497,500 movements) recorded an increase of 2.7% compared with July 2010 (484,200 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.5% for June 2010 and a decrease of 1.2% for July 2010.
- Original estimates: There were 453,400 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in August 2010.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during August 2010 (602,900 movements) increased 0.7% compared with July 2010 (598,500 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.2% for June 2010 and 1.0% for July 2010. The current trend estimate for departures is 13.4% higher than in August 2009.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During August 2010, short-term resident departures (595,200 movements) decreased by 1.2% compared with July 2010 (602,300 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 6.3% for June and a decrease of 2.0% for July 2010.
- Original estimates: There were 582,600 short-term resident departures from Australia during August 2010.
