ABOUT THIS RELEASE
The objective of this paper is to provide an evaluation of qualification level and field of study data collected in the 1996 Census.
This paper contains information about form design for qualification questions, an analysis of the non-response rates for qualification data and a discussion of respondent errors, such as the failure to provide sufficient qualification field information. Also included are a description of the coding procedures used to assign a qualification level and field, the edits used in processing and an examination of the coding discrepancies recorded by the quality management system in 1996. Further analyses reconcile the data collected by the May 1996 Transition from Education to Work Survey with the 1996 Census. Finally the paper discusses changes to form design for 2001 and the use of a new classification.
