PRIMARY PRODUCTION

CATTLE

At 30 June 2009 the NT had an estimated meat cattle population of around 1.7 million. Almost all of these were located in the Northern Territory - Bal Statistical Division (SD), with around 13,000 located in Darwin SD. During 2008–09 around 4,800 cattle and 1,200 calves were slaughtered in the NT, resulting in about 1,020 tonnes of beef and 48 tonnes of veal.
