HOUSING FINANCE COMMITMENTS The number of Queensland owner occupied housing commitments in trend estimate terms decreased by -36% to 9,635 in August 2008 when compared with August 2007. There was also a decrease (-3.4%) between July 2008 and August 2008, the fifteenth consecutive monthly decrease. The trend estimate of the total value of housing finance commitments for owner occupation in Queensland decreased by -33% to $2,442 million in the 12 months to August 2008. In terms of the trend estimate, the value of housing finance commitments showed a small decrease of -2.6% from July 2008. Since August 1998, the average home loan commitment for owner occupied dwellings in Queensland has more than doubled from $121,400 to $254,300. In August 2008, the average loan size for first home buyers ($259,900) was slightly higher than for non-first home buyers ($253,300).
